Yin Yoga

Over 3,000 years ago in China, Taoists developed a healing practice of “meridian stretching”.  Yin Yoga works with the meridians in your body and is a deeper and slower practice (and can be challenging!)  The postures are held for several minutes, depending on the posture.  Most other forms of yoga are dynamic active practices which concentrates on half the body, the muscular half “yang” tissues.  Whereas Yin allows us to work on the deeper half of the body; the tissues of our ligaments, joints, fascia and our bones, by comfortably “stressing” those areas.  Direct breathing is sent to the posture we are in. Yin Yoga helps us go deeper into ourselves, and we work with the flow of Qi (energy).  We work with the five elements, wood, metal, earth, fire and water; each representing an area to balance the body, and Qi.

Benefits of Yin Yoga include:

Releases Toxins and Waste
Flexibility and Range of Movement
Increased Collagen Production
Increases Circulation
Prana, energy flowing through our bodies
Chakra Balancing

Stimulates Blood Flow
Nourishes Cells and Organs
Mental and Emotional Wellbeing
Nervous System - dissolves tension

Yoga for Cancer

For those that have gone through cancer or currently receiving treatment.  Each session (whether it be a 1:1 or small class), focuses on making you feel comfortable and grounded through the changes your body has or is going through, in a safe and compassionate space. Incorporating breathwork, meditation and postures that safely stretch, strengthen and relax the body. I understand that certain medications can bring on early menopause and reduce bone density - each session combines a variety of postures to address these areas.

Benefits of Yoga for Cancer:

Decreases Stress and Pain
Increases Well-being
Builds Strength and Flexibility
Increases Bone Density
Strengthens the Immune System and Lymphatic Function
Reduces Fatigue
Enhances Energy, Digestion, Circulation, Joint Health, Endocrine Function and Respiration
Improves Quality of Sleep
Soothes Anxiety

Helps manage common side effects; Lymphedema, Neuropathy and Constipation
Camaraderie with others
